American Philosophy: The Basics is an introduction to the history of American thought from the early Calvinists to the New England Transcendentalists and from contract theory to contemporary African American philosophy. The book includes some of the most important developments in American thought including the contributions of early American revolutionaries, social and civil rights activists, and the ideas of American women, Native Americans and African Americans. The primary focus is on American philosophers’ works in epistemology, metaphysics, religion and ethics, social philosophy, and political philosophy.
