What is your history at UCF? (past job titles, responsibilities)
I came in December 2006 to build the College of Medicine.
What is your favorite UCF memory?
There are so many:
-calling the LCME (Liaison Committee on Medical Education) to ask if we could admit an additional student because we had raised too many scholarships
-our first white coat ceremony
-the call from our preliminary accreditation announcing that we had a clean slate with commendations
-the incorporation of the Burnett School into the College of Medicine
and more to come………….
The main campus would also be in Lake Nona allowing our faculty less commuting!
What is one piece of advice you would like to share with your colleagues?
You cannot fail at anything until you quit, therefore persist even in the face of adversity. To achieve success, be confident, open to new ideas and partnerships, and uncompromising in your values and integrity. If you do this you will achieve far beyond your dreams.
What is your favorite book or movie or song?
Poem: “If” by Rudyard Kipling
Movie: “Life is Beautiful”
Song: Too many, I can’t choose. I lived in Nashville and love country new and old.
What is your dream vacation spot?
Wherever I am
Who at UCF would you like to thank for your success?
President Hitt for his confidence in me, Provost Hickey for hiring me, and Provost Waldrop for his strength and support. The entire faculty and staff of the COM for their brilliance and their dedication to our vision and their amazing ability to repeatedly exceed my expectations. Last but not least, the UCF community for embracing our College of Medicine.
